Code Enforcement FAQ
Do you have this condition in your neighborhood?
Overgrowth of lots, 12" or higher, unsightly articles and trash on private property; unsafe housing deterioration of housing or structures; illegal signs; disabled vehicles; parking of commercial vehicles, boats, trailers and motor homes in a residential area; unauthorized building activities; zoning violations and unauthorized uses of property.
Why do we have code enforcement?
Our citizens have asked that this function be performed to assist area neighborhoods and business areas in maintaining livable, clean and safe conditions on properties and buildings, which also results in enhanced property values.
Who performs this function?
Code Enforcement activities are performed by our code enforcement
officer and our code inspectors.
How is code enforcement carried out?
Our code enforcement officer regularly checks areas throughout the City for potential violations and responds to calls from citizens who report specific violations. When a violation is found, the property owner, resident or business owner is notified by personal delivery of a notice at the site, through certified mail or by various tags or door hangers that act as communication tools. Matters that remain uncorrected are referred to the Code Enforcement Board, which has the authority to impose fines; or a citation can be issued for certain violations.
