University Club

Dedicated to community service, fellowship, and intellectual stimulation. The Club seeks to promote continued education and to cultivate educational, artistic, scientific, philanthropic, literary and historical interests.

The University Club was founded in 1934 by a small group of college graduates who sought a forum where people of diverse business, professional and academic backgrounds could meet, exchange information, ideas, and experiences. The unique appeal of the University Club's purpose accounts for its growth, so that today some 650 men and women member’s enjoy a mutual bond of intellectual curiosity and fellowship.

Shortly after organizing and occupying several temporary quarters the University Club met in the clubhouse of the present Winter Park Golf Course. In 1948 a new clubhouse by Gamble Rogers (also the designer of Casa Feliz) was occupied at Webster and Park Avenues. There have been expansions and improvements since. The University Club is listed in the Winter Park Register of Historic Places.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES
The University Club of Winter Park is proud of the community in which it resides, and demonstrates that pride by funding projects that contribute to local cultural and educational advancement, by providing scholarships to needy students and providing grants to worthy community organizations. Members are made available to professors at Rollins College as a classroom resource. The University Club is also available for rent by the public for wedding receptions, etc. and by non-profit organizations.

MEMBERSHIP (By invitation only)
A large number of the Club members are retirees, fresh from distinguished careers in universities, industry, government, the military, and a wide spectrum of the professions and arts, who have joined the University Club seeking continued intellectual stimuli.

A recent survey indicated that members have attended some 250 colleges and universities in the United States and in other nations. Over 40 percent have more than a single degree and many are listed in the various Who's Who editions and like publications.

While an academic degree is the primary basis of eligibility for membership, the Club recognizes that many motivated individuals pursued their cultural interests outside the traditional university environment. Therefore, the lack of a formal degree is not a bar to membership for those men and women whose experience and achievements would enhance and strengthen the Club. A limited number of memberships are open to such qualified persons.
